A new mutant of the Coronavirus pushes countries to a new state of alert

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization announced the classification of BA.2.86, nicknamed (Byrula), as a mutant under surveillance. It is a new variant of the Coronavirus, but it is highly mutated, as it has put many countries on alert, prompting scientists to research to understand the extent of its spread. And how effective is our immunity in defending against this new mutant that causes Covid-19 infection.

Pyrola contains more than 30 changes or mutations in the amino acids of the virus proteins compared to the closest species to this mutant, which is called BA.2, resulting from the “Omicron” mutant, according to Dr. Jess Bloom, who studies viral evolution at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.
